INDUSTRY NEWS 13 Queensland growth still going strong Queensland has once again outpaced the national economy and recorded an annual growth rate of 5.1 per cent in 2007-08, according to the recently released Report on State Finances. Premier Anna Bligh believes the growth rate of 5.1 per cent is testament to the prosperity and flexibility of the modern Queensland economy. “The modern Queensland economy has the benefit of a booming commodities sector, but is not overly reliant on just one sector. That’s our real strength as we face an uncertain future,’’ she said. The government has warned that Queensland now faces a far more challenging global economic environment this financial year. Treasurer Andrew Fraser said that while the world’s economy was precariously positioned, Queensland’s $809 million surplus was put in place to guard against downside uncertainties. “We find ourselves in a stunningly different environment just four months into the 08-09 financial year.” Golfing success on the Downs A record number of local agents turned out for the 2008 REIQ Golf Day for the Toowoomba and South West Region on Friday 17 October. REIQ Toowoomba zone chair Leon Carlile recognised the generosity of the event’s sponsors, which included: The Chronicle, Litho Art, All Signs and Designs, Open2View, Empire Theatres Foundation, GJ Gardiner Homes Toowoomba and Matrix Financial Planners Toowoomba. “The event was well supported by agents and is a great social event, which brings the local REIQ accredited agencies together,” Mr Carlile said.
