REIQ Journal : July 2008
30 JOURNAL Q & A Q What effect has winning the REIQ Rookie of the Year award had on your career? A Winning the REIQ Rookie of the Year award has had a two-fold effect on my career. It has given me the surety that I am providing my clients with an industryleading quality of service. It has also grown my profile with existing clients, and in the New Farm area generally. It was lovely to receive phone calls from past clients complimenting me on the win and confirming that I was a very deserving winner in their opinion. Q How do you maintain a work-life balance? A I set aside time each week for the things that are most important to me outside of work – family, friends and training. I believe that most tasks will fill the length of time you allocate them. As a result I structure my week to allow for after-hours appointments and open homes, but also to accommodate the other things in my life that are important to me. At the moment close to the top of the list is training for the Dragon Boat World Club Crew Championships in August in Penang, Malaysia. Nomination packs for the 2009 REIQ Awards for Excellence will be mailed in September and nominations will close at the end of October. Now is the time to consider if you think you or your agency might be eligible for an REIQ Award for Excellence. There are 14 categories catering to individuals and agencies in all industry sectors and areas of practice. Keep an eye on www.memberlink.com.au and future editions of the REIQ Journal for further details. Q What are your goals for the future? A I love working in the real estate industry and it is my goal to build a personal business that allows me to operate autonomously and achieve financial freedom as well as a balanced lifestyle. To achieve these goals, I am building my profile in the New Farm area through investing in personal advertising and public relations, in addition to building business alliances and referral networks. Q Finally, what is it that you love about the industry? A I love the opportunities and rewards the real estate industry offers. Nearly anyone can undertake the required training and registration and become a real estate agent. From that point on the level of success they achieve is limited only by themselves. There aren’t that many industries or employers that can put “get unlimited opportunities for success here” in their ads! Do you know whether you should be paying superannuation on overtime, annual leave, and bonuses? Do you know what to do when you make late superannuation payments to avoid paying twice?
